Pastor Powell was born in Virginia and raised in California, Missouri. He attended Concordia University, Nebraska and in 2006 received Bachelors of Science degree in Secondary Education with emphasis in history and theology. He then went on to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis where he received his masters of divinity degree in 2010. He has been at Trinity since 2010, serving as associate pastor from August 2010 until January 2019 when he was installed as senior pastor. As part of his duties at Trinity, Pastor Powell teaches junior high religion.
Pastor Powell currently serves as the Secretary of the Missouri District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Outside of church Pastor Powell serves as a health and safety instructor with the American Red Cross. He also serves as treasurer of the Riverview Cemetery Board of Directors. Since 2017 he has served as a chaplain of the Jefferson City Fire Department. As a fire chaplain he is a member of the Missouri Fire Chaplain Corps, the Federation of Fire Chaplains, and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.
